The British Orthopaedic Sports Trauma and Arthroscopy Association provides a forum for the presentation of basic research, advances in clinical practice and the results of surgical procedures pertaining to orthopaedic sports trauma and to improve the care offered by orthopaedic surgeons to the victims of injuries sustained during sport.
The BOSTAA Annual Meeting is a gathering of leading consultant surgeons, physiotherapists, researchers, clinicians, and other allied health professionals discussing the latest advances in sports surgery.

A fantastic lineup of expert faculty who bring diverse perspectives to the forefront of orthopaedic sports surgery and treatment advancements.


Through her experience of working in the Military, at Headley Court, and her appointment as the clinical lead of the Spines department, she developed an interest in chronic pain management and the understanding the multifaceted components to pain.
She has worked in a variety of sports including premiership academy football, rugby, hockey, ice hockey and GB disability target shooting. She has experience with both international men’s & women’s rugby and football and has also worked extensively with the younger age group.

He has extensive expertise in shoulder arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery, shoulder and elbow replacements, and the management of upper limb trauma.
A key area of Mr Candal-Couto’s practice is the development of day‑case treatment for a wide range of shoulder conditions, including instability, rotator cuff disease, frozen shoulder, and shoulder arthroplasty. He also has a particular interest in the management of proximal humeral fractures.
Mr Candal-Couto is committed to education and the sharing of best practice. He is regularly involved in regional, national, and international teaching courses, contributing to the training and development of other healthcare professionals.

I trained in General Surgery on the Nottingham surgical rotation,
followed by my Orthopaedic training in Yorkshire, receiving the FRCSEd(Orth) in 1994
Appointed Senior Lecturer, University of Leeds and Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon 1996.

His focus is on achieving the best possible outcomes for patients with acute soft tissue injuries or fractures and for those with longer term conditions of the hand, wrist and elbow. He uses the most effective evidence based and advanced techniques, working with a dedicated team of specialists to deliver truly personalised care. He has developed an interest in complex hand and wrist trauma, minimally invasive keyhole techniques and joint replacements. He treats sports players at elite levels in football, rugby, cricket, tennis, boxing and summer and winter Olympians. At University College London Hospital he leads the Senior Hand Fellowship, training the next generation of specialist hand surgeons.



Mr Jain originally graduated from the University of Southampton before undergoing basic surgical training in Plymouth. After graduating from a sports injuries and reconstructive arthroscopy fellowship at the world-renowned University of British Columbia in Canada, Mr Jain was appointed consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.
Mr Jain is widely published in peer reviewed journals and medical textbooks, and has given over 100 presentations at national and international conferences. He has worked with a number of sports clubs and associations including Wolverhampton Wanderers FC, Barrow Raiders RLFC, Bury FC, University of British Columbia Thunderbirds, Vancouver Canadians (Baseball), Winnipeg Blue Bombers (American Football) and Vancouver Canucks (Ice Hockey). Mr Jain is actively involved in teaching and is an honorary senior lecturer at the University of Salford.

Dr Basu graduated from St. Bartholomew’s and the Royal London School of Medicine & Dentistry, University of London. He then completed general Clinical Radiology and higher subspecialty training in Musculoskeletal (MSK) imaging at the then North West Deanery School of Radiology in Manchester. This was followed by further sub-specialist training during a one-year MSK and Sports Imaging Fellowship at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, London.
Subhashish Basu holds positions as visiting Professor at Manchester Metropolitan University and also as a Senior Honorary Lecturer at the University of Salford where he is passionately involved in the education of post-graduate students. He lectures at both national and international meetings as well as publishing in peer-reviewed literature. He is also an active reviewer to the journal Clinical Radiology. He enjoys professional memberships to the RCR, BSSR, ESSR and RSNA.
Outside of medicine, Subhashish pursues an active life alongside his family with a love for international travel and immersing himself into different cultures. He has a passion for music and sports, especially tennis, football and cricket. Any free time is rapidly taken up through his role as an international tennis umpire, which allows him to officiate at tennis tournaments around the world. In 2018, he successfully officiated at his 12th consecutive grand slam Wimbledon Tennis Championships.
